SHARED HOSTING

How do I transfer / migrate my websites to SolidHost?

SolidHost offers free migration service to transfer all your website files, scripts, databases, emails, and control panel settings from your previous service provider to your new hosting account with us.

What is web hosting?

Whether you are building a website or sending emails, you will be creating computer files. These files need to be stored in and processed by a server so that everyone can access your website and you can send/receive emails. This is called hosting.

A server is a specialized computer, similar to your computer, but with much more capacity and is usually built very specifically for hosting websites and emails. Anything related to protecting and taking care of the server, its software, security, support, bandwidth, speed, and so much more, is what we do better! We take care of everything for you so you can concentrate on your business.

What is the difference between web hosting and a domain name?

As mentioned above, web hosting is storage for your website, but you need a domain name for others to view your website.

A domain or domain name is the address of your home/office on the internet. It is similar to a street address. One needs to know the street address to find your home or office. On the internet, it is the same, you need an internet address so that everyone can find you. It is unique, once you register a domain, no one else can register the same domain, just like a street address, only one house can be registered at a holding address.

Which package should I choose?

The Shared Personal plan is suitable for most people. If you are going to sell online or want to host more websites, choose a plan with a higher resource. In the end, it also depends on what you want to do with your website. If you are unsure, contact us, we will be happy to help you choose the right package.

How do I upgrade my package?

You can always upgrade your hosting package from your Client Area. Upgrading is seamless and involves no downtime or interruption.

Can I have trial of a hosting account?

All our hosting packages include a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee, allowing you to try out hosting before committing long term.

How secure are my website files?

Although Fort Knox does not do website hosting, we get as close as we can to ensure your website is hosted with Fort-like security. Gaining access to the location where your website files are hosted involves moving past data center campus police, regular 24x7 security staff, two-factor authentication including proximity readers and biometric access controls; in addition to moving past security cameras, CCTV and finally a locked cabinet.

MANAGED VPS

What is Managed VPS Hosting?

A Managed VPS is a Virtual Server but without the overhead of server administration. Typically, you would want a Managed VPS when you have outgrown shared or reseller hosting or need more server resources but do not want to handle server administration. Our Managed VPS is capable of accommodating high performance workloads. We handle server management, security, optimization, software updates, and troubleshooting.

Can the Managed VPS be used without any prior experience in server administration?

Yes, of course. Our Managed VPS Hosting is designed specifically for users who do not have any experience in server administration. We provide you with an easy to use environment so that you can focus on your website without any concern of managing your server. We handle the server side tasks, maintenance, and troubleshooting just as we do with shared hosting.

Do you provide root access?

Yes, we provide full root access. Please log in to your Client Area and open a ticket to get root access. If you do not have any prior experience in server administration, we recommend you do not use root access and let us handle server administration entirely.

How safe is my data with you? What will happen if my data is lost due to a server or hardware failure?

Data safety is of the highest priority with us. We use RAID protected storage arrays. RAID safeguards your data by writing it on multiple disks so that no data is lost in the event of a hardware or server failure.

Additionally, we offer Disaster Recovery Backup to safeguard your data.

How much time does it take to setup my Managed VPS Hosting?

It takes 4 - 24 hours to provision a fully configured Managed VPS. Some providers simply install DirectAdmin or cPanel and hand the server over to you. We perform a number of tasks before provisioning a new Managed VPS.

In the end, you get a Managed VPS that has been properly configured, tested, and is ready for use.

SSL CERTIFICATES

What is SSL? What is TLS??

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and it’s successor TLS (Transport Layer Security) are methods used to secure and encrypt sensitive information like credit cards, usernames, passwords, and other private data sent over the Internet. Website pages secured with SSL and TLS are those branded with the HTTPS in their URL address.

Who needs an SSL Certificate?

Anything (including people, software, computers, and devices) who exchange sensitive information on any network, including the Internet and Web, needs to use SSL/TLS. Sensitive information includes things like username and passwords, credit card numbers, or any other data that needs to be kept private.

What is a Wildcard SSL/TLS certificate?

Wildcard SSL/TLS allows the use of an unlimited number of subdomains in the SSL/TLS certificate. Any full domain that matches *.yourdomain.com (where * can be any word and yourdomain.com is your domain) will be secured by a wildcard SSL digital certificate. For instance, solidhost.io, www.solidhost.io, mail.solidhost.io, and any other combination of solidhost.io would be secured by a wildcard certificate issued to *.solidhost.io.

How long does it take to get my SSL certificate?

Depending on the certificate type, typical SSL issuance normally takes several minutes but can take up to several hours or days.

What is a Multi-Domain UC certificate / SAN certificate?

Subject Alternative Name certificates (commonly known as SAN SSL/TLS, Exchange Server Certificates, Unified Communications Certificates or UCC SSL) are SSL/TLS certificates that can secure multiple domains (including wildcard domains) in a single SSL certificate with a common expiration date. They are ideal for cloud services whereby the number of allocated ip addresses are limited yet must be shared with multiple virtual hosts. They are also ideal as Exchange SSL certificates for use in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Exchange Server 2010, and MS Live Communications Server.
